Pine

To set up PC-Pine the appropriate requirements which are:

• SMTP server, which is for sending messages
• IMAP server (and if possible the directory name), this is where the incoming messages are delivered to and for the storing of the remote messages folder
• An email address
• Password on the IMAP server and its name
• NNTP for receiving ,storing and sending news messages (only needed if PC-Pine is used as a news client)
• Finding out the available space for storing remote messages folder on the IMAP server
• Finding out the IMAP server software used and the operating system it is running at
• Finding out if the IMAP server allows shell access
• Accessing to the IMAP server is required
• Checking the used space on the IMAP server.
• Microsoft Window 95 or higher operating system is required to set up the pine client..

   Outlook Express

To set up Outlook Express the appropriate requirements which are:

• Outlook Express requires a PC with a 486 Processor and 66 Megahertz and higher
• A 16MB RAM and approximately1.5MB space on the Hand drive.
• Running on a Windows 95 or NT 4.0 operating system and higher.

Software requirements and configuration Methods:

• APOP Support : APOP is a fragment of POP3 protocol .
• BinHex Encoding Support : BinHex is an older encoding technology. It is the most time used with Macs.
• Different Configurations for Each Account : " Some user configurable options on an account-by-account basis are included below":
• Language Settings The Character Set preferences of user should be remembered by the Outlook Express on a per account basis. At the same time this would mean that when a user uses spell check, that it automatically is set in the proper language on that character set specifications.
• Message Formatting The user can use for instant Plain Text with Account 1 and HTML with account 2, and Outlook Express will store this information.
• Signatures The user has the option to use different signatures with different accounts and Outlook Express would save that information.
• View Settings e.g. if the user wants to view only unread messages, he can set the "View Setting" for it.
• Print Multiple Messages: If the user wants to print multiple messages from Outlook Express, the first step he must at one time highlight the header for each message and then click on the print icon.
• Manage Sent Items the Outlook Express gives the user a possibility to Save the copy of sent message in the "Sent items Folder".
• Multiple Profile Support: It was demanded that a Multiple Profile support in Outlook Express exist, which makes the email easier to use. For example a user can ( without restart Outlook Express/Windows) use a simple pull down menu box to select another Mail or News profile. this has been achieved and has made Outlook Express even more popular, as users can set and access different email address at different webmail/providers.
• No Folder List Autoscrolling: In Outlook Express, many users desire a feature that allows turning off onto Scrolling in the folder list, when switching to another newsgroup, as the title are quite long and the folder list automatically Scrolls to the right. As mail folder names are typically much shorter, visibility of most of folder is lost. The folder list in Outlook Express uses a shared windows control known as the tree view, and was used for Windows Explorer originally, and therefore this unpleasant limitation will stay present until a way is found to separate the two.
• Attachment Request:
• Attaching Multiple Files at Once: At first when outlook express started, only one attachment could have been added to a message at a time using the paperclip icon in the Compose Message window. After that many users have requested that Outlook Express should be modified so that they can attach multiple files at one time. Today all of that is possible on Outlook Express.
